Blackcurrants Throughout History

Throughout history Blackcurrants have been valued as a nutritious food. During the Middle Ages, Blackcurrants were used as an herbal medicine. In the eighteenth century, the use of blackcurrant fruit became widespread among herbalists and physicians, particularly in Europe. Berry preparations  were used for treatment in various tonics.

However, it wasn’t until the late 1970′s that Blackcurrants were studied scientifically.
